David Paul Maddock, 74, of Fox Island, Washington joined God in Heaven on January 10th, 2021.  He passed away unexpectedly in his beloved wife, Patricia Maddock’s, arms at their winter home in La Quinta, California.  He most likely died due to sudden onset of complications from a routine, scheduled, uneventful gallbladder removal surgery two days prior.

Dave was a true patriot and family man.  He loved and was immensely proud of his family.  Dave always thanked God for Family, Friends, Faith & Freedom when saying grace during his many family dinners and parties.  Those four virtues and hard work were what Dave lived for.  Dave would say: “The only place Success comes before Work is in the dictionary”.

Dave grew up on a farm in Puyallup.  As a child, he sold cucumbers for a penny a piece or a hundred for a dollar.  With his cucumber earnings, he was able to purchase cattle and pay his way through Bellarmine High School.  He furthered his Catholic education at Seattle University, where he joined the ROTC and met the love of his life, Patricia, who Dave was able to impress by making her the Queen of the ROTC Ball.

After graduating college in 1968, he enlisted in the Army and proudly served our country in Vietnam.  His duties were to inspect the field hospitals to make sure they were being operated properly and had all the correct supplies to care for our wounded soldiers.  Dave loved serving the USA, the Army, and continued serving in the Army Reserves for over 30 years.  Prior to retiring from the Army Reserves, he met his goal of being promoted to a Colonel, which he referred to as a “Full Bird”.

After Vietnam, Dave started his insurance career by joining New York Life.  His hard work and lovable personality made him consistently one of the top producers in the local New York Life office.  With the help of Pat, Dave went on to start Maddock & Associates, which is now one of the top local, and independent employee benefits brokerage firms in Washington State.  Dave’s hard work, dedication, and rock-solid ethics earned him the love and trust of his many clients, employees, and peers.

Dave’s son joined Maddock & Associates in 2001 and enjoyed every minute of working with his father.  After 15 years, Dave felt confident the business and his clients were in good hands and he and Pat fully retired. Although retired from the office, he didn’t retire from life. Dave went from working in the insurance business to being a full-time gardener at his home on Fox Island.  He loved working in the yard as well as his Fox Island community.  He received great satisfaction by personally making his property one of the best in the neighborhood.

In addition to working in the yard, Dave enjoyed snow-skiing perfect “corduroy” at Whistler, BC as well as golfing with his bride.  His love of golf was really his love of family and being with his wife, Patricia, who is the passionate golfer.  Dave would do anything for his country and his family.  Dave and Pat would coordinate and/or host family reunions, trips, and events.  Dave made family trips to Cabo, Whistler & La Quinta happen every year where he spent precious time with his children and grandchildren.  Everyone loved Dave. He saw the good in people and was extremely generous to everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed.  He would be happy to know that “He died with his boots on”.

Dave’s family will be having a funeral mass and burial.  Due to COVID regulations, the number of attendees will be limited.  When COVID restrictions are removed, the family will be hosting a large celebration of life party to honor Dave.

Dave was preceded in death by his father, George Maddock, and mother, Ella Loen Maddock.  He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia, his three brothers: George, Andrew, Mark; his three children: Karen, Krista, David; and three grandchildren: Sierra, Hailey, Ella, and his beloved Golden Retriever Mayzie.
